The vertical approach

From its inception in the mid-Victorian era, Mallalieus has been a vertical operation, meaning that virtually all the stages of production from preparing raw fibre to finishing woven fabric are carried out at one location. That location today is Valley Mill, Delph.

More than 150 years ago, vertical mills were not uncommon but today Mallalieus is one of a very few British fabric producers that still follows this strategy. The full woollen production process the company follows is explained on the Valley Mill tab on the home page.

Among the important benefits for clients is that requests for special designs can be fulfilled promptly and efficiently, with Mallalieus having complete quality control at every stage. And, of course, having everything on one site means production at Valley Mill has a very low carbon footprint.
